State Representative Johnny Chastain has been appointed while house Speaker John Burns to serve as a member of the House.

Blue Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth.

“I am grateful to Speaker Burns for establishing and appointing me to serve on this important study committee to evaluate growing concerns over the effects that online platforms, such as social media, have on young Georgians,” Chastain said. “As this type of web-based content becomes more and more pervasive, it is important that we understand the risks and consider policy solutions that keep pace with rapidly evolving technology and online content. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to find meaningful legislative solutions to protect Georgia’s youth,” he continued.

The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth will evaluate the effects of online platforms on minors to strengthen safety protections, address mental health concerns and promote age-appropriate access to online content

Chastain represents District 7, which includes Fannin, Gilmer and a portion of Dawson County. He was first elected to Georgia’s House in 2023, and currently serves on the Banks & Banking, Natural Resources and Environment, Rural Development and Small Business Development committees.
