The Madola Road bridge over Fightingtown Creek will close to through traffic Wednesday, June 8.

Fannin County Commission Chairman Jamie Hensley said this afternoon (Tuesday, May 25) he had just received confirmation of the closure from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

GDOT included the bridge in an October 21 list of bridges not meeting satisfactory standards. That report stated the bridge’s structure was in “poor condition.”

In November 2022, GDOT asked for public comments regarding plans to replace the bridge.

A lengthy detour of 10-plus miles will be in place while the bridge is closed. Local traffic from the Epworth area will still be able to access the Queen Road area from Madola Road. Other access to the area, on the opposite side of the bridge from Queen Road, will come from the Mobile Road side.
