“We got in a good work day,” Copper Basin Cougar Head Coach Brett Graves said after the seven-on-seven camp at Fannin County High School last Thursday, June 11.

The football Cougars squared off against the much larger Fannin county Rebels, McMinn Central Chargers and Murphy Bulldogs.

“We’re a young team, we knew that going in,” Graves said. The Cougars will take the gridiron this year with one senior and one junior on the roster, the rest of the players coming from the ninth and tenth grade.

But the veteran Cougar coach was not at all disappointed on his players’ efforts. “Mission accomplished on my side,” he said. They started and ended with a good attitude.

“To be where you want to be, you’ve got to play the good teams to do it,” Graves said.

All three of Copper Basin’s opponents Thursday are likely to see post season action.

The Cougars are preparing for the two week “dead” period in Tennessee, the weeks before July 4.

They will then return to the practice field to prepare for a scrimmage against Sunbright July 31 before hosting the Andrews Wildcats for a scrimmage the following week.
