 An extensive search for a missing Fannin County woman ended early Saturday morning, July 4, when she was found walking along a roadway in the Wilscot area. 

Heather Renee Haggerty, 53, was found walking along Tipton Springs Road by a neighbor, Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Patrick Cooke said. 

A Fannin County ambulance was dispatched to the scene at 8:48 a.m. to a report the missing had been found cold and wet. However, though she was out all night, there were no medical issues, Cooke said. 

Haggerty was reported missing Friday, July 3, at 2:04 p.m. by her sister, Cooke said. 

Soon afterward, an EMA emergency alert was posted about the disappearance. 

That began a search that would include a Georgia State Patrol helicopter, a total of seven K-9 units, ten Fannin County Fire & Rescue personnel, two volunteers from the Wolf Creek Fire Department with their side-by-sides, and five Fannin County Sheriff’s Department personnel. 

The K-9s included two from the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, four from Georgia K9 Search and Rescue, and one local volunteer. 

Cooke expressed special appreciation to the Wolf Creek department for their help with side-by-sides since Fannin County’s units were tied up at the McCaysville fireworks show.
