Copperhill’s Board of Aldermen have accepted a $28,800 price for the creation and delivery of a statue to honor those who worked in the mines and throughout the other operations of what is often simply referred to as “the copper company.”

$25,000 of the cost will be covered by a grant. The cost of the statue itself will cost $28,000, while shipping from the creator, Corey James Gallery in Highlands, North Carolina, is estimated at $800.

Aldermen are seeking another grant that hopefully cover the additional $3,000. Fundraisers are also being considered as a base will have to be constructed for the statue.

The statue will replace the previous monument that stood at the entrance to the city just off Highway 68 near the railroad tracks. Creation of the six-foot ball, bronze statue is expected to take six months.
