The quiet calm normally found at Serenity in the Mountains changed dramatically when the cast and crew of The Breed movie took over Tuesday night, July 14. 

The Breed, a feature-length, survival-horror thriller, is being filmed at several locations across North Georgia. 

The Serenity setting offered film makers a peaceful, spa day start to the movie as the cast begins a weekend meant to repair strained relationships and leave old mistakes behind. 

For several hours, Tammy Stewart and several members of Serenity’s staff worked to help arrange sets, find props, and do whatever was necessary to adjust the setting for the movie.

Three Serenity employees, Summer Allen, Coeetta Potts, and Caitlin Wilson, found themselves in front of the camera.

But once the peace of the Serenity spa day disappears for the friends, the movie turns to unexplained disturbances that fracture the group’s sense of safety in their secluded mountain cabin. Also disappearing is their trust in one another.

Cut off from the outside world and surrounded by miles of unforgiving wilderness, the friends are forced to confront a terrifying presence they cannot fully see, understand or escape.

Writer-director Cobus Gomes describes The Breed as combining character-driven suspense, practical creature effects and the natural isolation of the landscape to deliver a relentless horror experience.

“The mountains are beautiful, but that beauty can become unsettling very quickly when the light disappears,” Gomes said. “We wanted to create a horror film where the environment feels real, the relationships feel lived-in and the fear builds before the audience fully understands what is waiting outside.”

Besides Serenity in the Mountains, scenes were filed at Lake Blue Ridge Marina where Luke Cole was caught on camera.

Other locations have included the Gilmer County Airport, Colonel Poole’s Barbecue, and White Path Creek Distillery.

Vince Bagni, one of the movie’s producers, said there are about 20 cast and crew working on the movie, which was still shooting in the area this week. The goal is to have the movie ready by the end of the year.

As to the help provided at Serenity, “Tammy and her team have been great,” Bagni said.
